new book

My book group is reading Lady's Maid by Margaret Forster. It's about the personal maid to Elizabeth Barrett - before she was Elizabeth Barrett Browning - I think she ends up going away to Italy with Robert Browning in the book. So far it's pretty good.

I like the Brownings. But then all I know of them is their writing, mainly Elizabeth's. Sounds interesting.

I always love a good book. Thanks for the review!

It's written as if it was written in 1846 - an interesting "conceit" if you can call it that.

I'm hoping to get more read this week - since the book group meets on Thursday night!

She's getting ready to meet "Mr. Browning!"

Finally finished it - and not in time for the bookgroup either - but that is another story.

It was a good read - dragged a bit in the middle, but picked up speed. The afterword gives the "facts" but I'm still interested in checking out a good bio of her.

Now I'm reading The Choirboys by Joseph Wambaugh - and I want to read his new book too. Reviews were very positive - of course, he is an Angeleno - and the LA Times wrote the review.

I like to shop local!

So I got more into Choirboys today - and quit reading it - it's very 70's lit - and poor 70's lit at that.

Odd because The Onion Field was so well written.

This one is supposed to be humorous on one level - but fails miserably.

So I started Pavilion of Women instead, but may not finish that either - I will see - and let you know.

We have the Mrs. Nelson's Bookfair going on at school and I'm tempted to buy some books - and they have a grown up section. I could get them cheaper on Amazon, but then I wouldn't be supporting the Clifton Library!!
